When I was a child, I feared the night,
Thoughts of monsters gave me chilling fright.
Were they patiently lurking under the bed?
I had to protect myself by pulling the covers over my head!
Could they be in the closet ready to pounce as I walked by?
Better to lie in bed paralyzed than risk it and die!
Years passed, and I thought that none of the monsters ever got me.
But they did, because the fear that was inflicted kept me from feeling free.
The REAL monsters weren’t trying to eat me or grab me as I walked by,
They wanted me terrified by a grand lie.
A belief that a creature I had never seen had deadly power over my life.
Traumatizing my mind, as it intimidated me like a thief holding a knife.
The truth is that monsters really do exist, but not as many believe.
They are fallen spirits distorted by their own failures, and looking to deceive.
Their hope has been dissolved into burning ash,
Their “leader” struck down to earth with a sudden crash.
They took a chance and gambled it all,
They bet it all on black, but red won, and so came their fall.
They restlessly wander the world hoping to latch on to me and you,
Viciously looking for someone to devour is what they try to do.
They are blind and lost, offering their rot to others as a decoy,
Their deadly gifts offering an artificial high, but never heartfelt joy.
They may let out a roar to try to make us shiver and shake,
But their power entirely rests on the decisions we make.
We are lifted up above them, in Christ, and have nothing to fear.
Spread the Word, because victory can reach everyone when we share.
More than conquerors, marching into battle as we sing.
Men and women, led by a Glorious King.
If the monsters try to confound you with their evil wit,
Proclaim your Lord, and remind them their future is the pit.
You don’t need to argue with them or try to make your case,
Use your authority in Jesus to quickly put them in their place.
The truth is that when you boldly speak God’s Word,
They are the ones who are scared by what is being heard.
Their terror is the Truth that they can never escape.
A determined ending, perfectly taking shape.
So do not worry about scary monsters, even those under the bed,
Focus on the King who hung on the cross and willingly bled.
He died once for us all, and rose on the third day.
And no monster will ever have the power to take His beautiful gift to us away.
Luke 10:17-20 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
