The Farmer Who Grew

There was a farmer who didn’t know God.
He would often wake before sunrise to work in the sod.

He would plant the beans and the corn,
His life felt meaningful, but he was not yet reborn.

Day-after-day, he fed the animals with bales of hay,
But deep inside of himself, he couldn’t help but feel gray.

One day a pastor arrived on his porch,
Instantly, the farmer’s heart felt if it was being lit by a torch.

The kind pastor opened his bible and began to preach,
Concerned for the farmer’s future, he continued to teach.

He explained to the farmer that he was like a seed,
Wonderful in form, but not in fullness because of need.

Enthusiastically the pastor continued to share,
The farmer’s gray began to sprout from what his ears could hear.

A tear came down from the farmer’s eye,
It watered his heart, as he couldn’t help but cry.

On that day, the farmer had been born anew,
That gray spot blossomed into a bouquet of colors with a glowing hue.

The two men shared a hugging embrace,
Then the pastor was off to the neighbor’s place.

Early the next morning the farmer got out of bed,
But this day he had something different in his head.

He went into the nearest town, and with a loud voice he started to preach,
Enthusiastically, he exclaimed the gospel to the townspeople who he was determined to reach.

On that day, the farmer realized that of all things that he could grow,
There was nothing more important than the lost souls he could sow.

Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
