Jesus Defeats The Devil

Into the wilderness, by the Spirit, Jesus was led,
Forty days and nights He had no water or bread.

When the devil was certain that Jesus was weak,
To our Savior he did wretchedly speak.

“Son of God, command these stones to become bread”,
That is what the evil one said.

In this act, he tried to appear as innocent as a kitten,
But Jesus replied with “It is written…”

“Man shall not live by bread alone…”
In these words, Satan’s first plot was overthrown.

The devil then led Jesus to the temple’s peak,
Then out of his mouth the vile one did speak.

“If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down…”
This ill-mannered attempt is sure to make anyone frown.

“It is written…” spoke Jesus with the strength of an iron rod.
“Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

On his final attempt, Satan took the Lord to a high mountain,
Once again, out of his evil heart, his words came out like a fountain.

“All these things I will give to thee if you will fall down and worship me.”
Jesus wasn’t having it because He knew that “Greater is He…”

Then our King replied, “Get thee hence, Satan: For it is written…”
By this time the devil must’ve been shakin’ where he was sittin’.”

“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God alone…”
The devil had to have instantly become stiff as a bone.

“…And Him only shalt thou serve.”
And this is what really hit the devil’s nerve.

Satan took off! Like a shot! Oh, how did he flee.
Then angels came and ministered to Our Savior with great glee.

So the next time the roaring lion comes, turn him into a kitten.
Just share the Holy Truth with him, “For it is written…”

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
