  • Moses: From Prince To Prophet

To Amram and Jochebed there was born a godly child,
A prophet, a son, and upon him God certainly smiled.

Moses was his name and he would become the most humble man,
For God instilled this in him as part of His perfect plan.

One day Pharaoh became angry and demanded the Hebrew sons be thrown into the river,
But wait, our Lord would use this as part of His plan to deliver.

Jochebed could only hide her precious child for awhile,
She placed him in a basket and sent him down the Nile.

Pharaoh’s daughter found the babe at the river bank,
When baby Moses wept, her heart sank.

She called upon her maid to help, and they raised Moses without shame,
A judge and a prince of Egypt our young friend became.

Moses spied an Egyptian hurting one of his Hebrew brothers,
He killed the offender, and hid his body in the sand from the others.

To the land of Midian did our fearful prince flee,
There he married Zipporah when she filled his heart with glee.

One day to Mount Horeb he took his father-in-law Jethro’s flock,
What he saw next would give him a shock.

Out of a burning bush did the angel of the Lord appear,
God made His instructions to Moses very clear.

He was to go back to Egypt and free the children of God,
To Moses a sign was given, when a living serpent became of his rod.

Moses was reunited with his brother Aaron who would help be his voice,
You see, Moses couldn’t speak well and God did not give Aaron a choice.

On to Egypt did the two brothers go,
They made their request, but Pharaoh said, “NO!”

Oh how did Pharaoh make a great blunder,
God reached out His hand against Egypt with great wonder.

For ten plagues against the Egyptians would unfold,
Let’s learn them in order in which they are told.

Water into blood was the first plague the Egyptians would have to bear,
Then masses of frogs came because Pharaoh would still not hear.

Next. the land was infested with lice, and later swarms of flies,
Pharaoh made promises to let the people go, but they were only lies.

The next two plagues to come were the dead livestock and boils,
Still the people were not freed from Pharaoh’s coils.

Then came the plague of hail and fire,
This did not change Pharaoh’s evil desire.

Locusts came and swarmed the land,
Pharaoh continued to lie and did not fear God’s hand.

The ninth plague was darkness over Egypt, which made Pharaoh’s anger burn,
He bid dear Moses to take the Hebrew people and never to return.

This again was a lie that Pharaoh told,
So would come the final plague that would be the most bold.

The plague of the firstborn would our Lord bring,
Oh how on the land of Egypt this deadly plague would sting.

The Hebrews were protected through the blood of the lamb over their door,
A symbol of Jesus Christ, for this was His war.

At midnight God smote the firstborn, including Pharaoh’s son,
The Egyptian ruler was broken and declared the Lord’s battle won.

The child of Israel were finally set free,
Then Pharaoh’s heart hardened and he chased them to the Red Sea.

God instructed Moses to stretch out his hand and the waters parted,
The Hebrews passed through, but Pharaoh refused to be outsmarted.

Into the sea did the Egyptian army rush with all their might,
God tore off their chariot wheels and quickly ended the fight.

For the second time Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
The waters drowned the Egyptians giving them no chance to flee.

The women danced over the battle that was won.
Great glory was given to God the Son.

    Fun Facts:

The name Moses means “to draw out”, which is exactly what we see Moses doing throughout his life (Exo 2:10).

Moses was the most meek and humble natural man to walk the face of the earth during his lifetime, which is likely one of the reasons God chose him (Num 12:3).

  • Lighting The Path

Early this morning I opened my eyes,
Walked outside to behold the beautiful skies.

The sun had risen and the world around me began to shine,
This day a gift, both yours and mine.

It is up to each one of us to choose how it will unfold,
Some may relax, but others may be more bold.

Whatever we choose, keep this in mind,
Whatever we seek, is what we will find.

Consider it a new opportunity to light a path for others,
Giving our absolute best to our sisters and brothers.

Just as the sun has risen to brighten our day,
We have the opportunity to shine like a beautiful ray.

The world is filled with darkness and gloom,
But from the tiniest spark, a wildfire can bloom.

We can be like a smoldering flicker of light,
Encouraging others and offering them sight.

Together we can glisten, even into the night,
While bringing in others to join in our delight.

Darkness has its purpose, just as all things do,
But it is better when it exists outside of you.

We are called by God to be a light in this world,
Glistening at others, with our hope and positivity being hurled.

A chance to radiantly brighten what the enemy was trying to hide,
And reminding those struggling, that they have someone by their side.

Just remember that our light comes from above,
We are lamps to others, emitting His love.

So let’s illuminate a path through this magnificent day,
And together lift up each other in how we live and pray.

Matt 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

  • Joseph: Master Of Dreams

To Jacob and Rachel there was born a son,
His name was Joseph, and his father loved him a ton.

Joseph was favored above all his brothers,
His daddy even made him a coat of many colors.

One day the Lord gave Joseph a dream,
Oh how this must have made him gleam.

He went and told his brothers that he would rule over them,
They must have wanted to tear him limb-from-limb.

Joseph received another dream from heaven above,
He declared to his brothers they would bow down and show him some love.

One day his brothers plotted and threw him in a pit,
However some merchantmen passed by and the original plan did not sit.

For twenty pieces of silver Joseph was sold,
But to God, Joseph was worth more than gold.

The brothers went to Jacob and declared Joseph was killed by a beast,
Oh how they did claim that it did feast.

Joseph ended up becoming an overseer in Potiphar’s court,
This was until he refused to sin and was given a negative report.

Our hero was thrown in a jail cell,
Time passed, but our God did not fail.

The chief baker and chief butler joined our friend,
This is where God moved and brought the folly to an end.

The baker and the butler both had a dream to share,
Joseph interpreted each with great care.

Unfortunately, for the baker this was the end of the line,
But for the butler, things would turn out just fine.

One day Pharaoh had a dream that no one understood,
Until the butler remembered that Joseph could.

To Pharaoh, Joseph declared there would be a famine in the land,
Again, we see the power of God’s hand.

Joseph became a ruler of everything under Pharaoh’s domain,
The people would have to come to him if they wanted some grain.

One day his brothers journeyed to Egypt to get their ration,
Joseph recognized his brothers, and his heart was filled with compassion.

The brothers fell before Joseph with their faces to the earth,
For in Joseph did they find much worth.

Joseph didn’t reveal his identity right away,
To meet the rest of his family a small game he did play.

He called for his brothers to bring Benjamin to the land,
They agreed, even though they would have to bring him across much sand.

Soon the brothers were united and Joseph couldn’t hold back the tears,
For he had been without his family for so many years.

He revealed himself to his eleven brethren because he couldn’t hold back,
He wept and hugged them tightly without any slack.

Soon daddy Jacob would get the word that Joseph was alive,
He rushed to meet him in Goshen, despite the long drive.

Father and son once again were restored,
This was the was the work of Jesus our Lord.

So next time God gives you some dreams,
Remember, they are promises from Him who redeems.

    Fun Fact:

Despite how badly Joseph’s brothers treated him, he went on to forgive them (Gen 50:16-21).

  • Jonah: The Fishiest Prophet Of All

The word of the Lord came to Jonah, and said, “to Nineveh you must go”,
Jonah tried to sneak away, not even bothering to tell God, “No!”

He climbed into a boat in Joppa, and tried to flee to Tarshish,
Little did he know that God was about to make him famous with a fish.

As the ship sailed to Joppa, the Lord caused a tempest to arise,
To the crew onboard this was an unwelcome surprise.

The men on the ship found Jonah asleep,
They cast lots to decide who would be thrown into the deep.

The lots landed on Jonah, who declared he was running from the Lord,
The men wasted no time and threw the sinful prophet overboard.

God prepared a great fish, and some may even say it was a whale,
It gobbled up Jonah; Oh how that must have made him smell.

Out of the belly of hell did he cry for three days and nights,
Part of the journey was over, and the fish opened its pearly whites.

To the great fish the Lord did speak,
Jonah was vomited out. Oh, how he had to reek.

For a second time, the Lord declared, “to Nineveh you must go”,
Our friend wasn’t happy, but decided to get on with the show.

Our friend gathered himself and went to the great city,
He preached, but without heart, showing the people no pity.

For the people of Nineveh couldn’t tell their left hand from their right,
However to Jesus, they were beautiful in His sight.

The Ninevites faithfully and sincerely repented of their past,
They even sat in ashes and declared a fast.

The Lord showed perfect mercy and gave them a new start,
But Jonah was angry and held contempt in his heart.

Jonah sat outside the city, hoping it would be destroyed,
This was when another plan of God was deployed.

Out of the ground came a beautiful gourd,
This was the handy work of our Lord.

Next, the Lord prepared a worm and the entire gourd did it eat,
When the sun arose, on the head of Jonah did it beat.

Jonah fainted, and then you won’t believe what he said,
He declared to the Lord that he wished he was dead.

The Lord asked him how he could pity the gourd he did not grow,
For it was the work of God that Nineveh He did sow.

Once again, He was asked how he could want the people to perish,
For the Ninevites became God’s children who He would cherish.

In all this there is a lesson to be learned,
Our glorious Savior loves a heart that has turned.

So next time you see a fish or a whale in the blue,
Remember our Savior who hung on the cross for you.

    Fun Fact:

Jesus spent three days and nights in the heart of the earth, just as Jonah spent three days and nights in the whale.

Matt 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

  • Jesus – The Great “I AM”

Out of the burning bush, the Lord declared, “I AM that I AM”,
This was the voice of the Precious Lamb.

So who is He, and who are we?
Continue reading and you will see.

From the Gospel of John, the eight “I AM” statements will be revealed,
May this bless you and may your hearts be filled.

“I AM the Bread of Life” and the church shall I wed,
I am a partaker of the body of He who rose from the dead.

“I AM the Light of the world” for all to see,
I am gifted with the vision He has given to me.

“I AM the Door” for all to be saved,
I am a follower of the path He paved.

“I AM the Good Shepherd” who will give my life for the sheep,
I am a lamb who knows His voice, and heaven shall I reap.

“I AM the Resurrection and the Life” for all who believe in me,
I am soldier of Christ, and for Him I will bow to my knee.

“I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life” to the Father above,
I am a child of the Almighty God, and daily I experience His love.

“I AM the True Vine” in which you will find your root,
I am a branch and He cares for me so that I will bear fruit.

“Before Abraham was I AM” even before the creation of all,
I am made in His image, and He will never let me fall.

I am with I AM and I hope you will join us too,
For salvation is a gift from the great “I AM” to both me and you.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Jesus Defeats The Devil

Into the wilderness, by the Spirit, Jesus was led,
Forty days and nights He had no water or bread.

When the devil was certain that Jesus was weak,
To our Savior he did wretchedly speak.

“Son of God, command these stones to become bread”,
That is what the evil one said.

In this act, he tried to appear as innocent as a kitten,
But Jesus replied with “It is written…”

“Man shall not live by bread alone…”
In these words, Satan’s first plot was overthrown.

The devil then led Jesus to the temple’s peak,
Then out of his mouth the vile one did speak.

“If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down…”
This ill-mannered attempt is sure to make anyone frown.

“It is written…” spoke Jesus with the strength of an iron rod.
“Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

On his final attempt, Satan took the Lord to a high mountain,
Once again, out of his evil heart, his words came out like a fountain.

“All these things I will give to thee if you will fall down and worship me.”
Jesus wasn’t having it because He knew that “Greater is He…”

Then our King replied, “Get thee hence, Satan: For it is written…”
By this time the devil must’ve been shakin’ where he was sittin’.”

“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God alone…”
The devil had to have instantly become stiff as a bone.

“…And Him only shalt thou serve.”
And this is what really hit the devil’s nerve.

Satan took off! Like a shot! Oh, how did he flee.
Then angels came and ministered to Our Savior with great glee.

So the next time the roaring lion comes, turn him into a kitten.
Just share the Holy Truth with him, “For it is written…”

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

  • If You Only Understood

I looked into your eyes and saw your pain,
It was as brisk as a mid-summer rain.

There was so much that you could’ve said,
So many sweat and tears you have bled.

You’ve made choices that some might call a mistake,
But the sincerity in your heart was never fake.

You’ve walked through storms and oftentimes nobody cared,
In places you wandered, that many others would have feared.

You’ve wandered down a path that was sometimes dark,
But what you’ve always wanted was for light to embark.

People do not always see you for what is in your heart,
They point and judge right from the start.

But I know that there is a great truth in who you are,
There is a magical story behind each and every scar.

People really need to take the time to understand your inner beauty,
With all of humanity, treating others like this should be our duty.

You see, I also know that sometimes choices are made,
We grasp at poison, because if not we feel we would fade.

We walk barefoot across a pit of fire,
But in our hearts, there is something better we desire.

Life is full of choices, but many are unfair.
We do what we need to do, even when others may glare.

With all that being said, the truth must be told,
You deserve much better, but the world can still be cold.

Just know that sometimes those who judge you are really afraid,
Their judgments are self-reflections that feel as sharp as a blade.

They want to bring you down to the cold ground,
But if you looked inside them, great sadness would be found.

Such is one of life’s greatest laws.
A great white light will crush the darkness when at you it claws.

As you walk through the darkness, remember by this light you will also be followed,
One day it will overcome the dark terror, and it will be completely swallowed.

So remember that when people don’t take the time to understand your mind,
The darkness that flees from you will, to them it will find.

It will wrap itself around them and try to hide it’s sinister grip,
But the light will find it once again and through it, it will rip.

Remember, there is always hope for those who seem cruel,
Because forever over darkness, light will rule.

If you don’t believe me, strike a match in a dark room,
Once your strike the match, brightness will bloom.

Remember, never give up hope in anything,
And trust what that light that follows you will bring.

  • Frozen By Your Fire

I am a dark water that flows through a sea of trust,
To do what I know, this is an absolute must.

I’ll rob from the rich, and even the poor,
And if given the chance, I’ll take even more.

It’s something in me that rises like the tide,
But to do what I do, in myself, this I must hide.

Many have called me a “con” or a “thief of joy”,
I don’t care, and this is the focus of every ploy.

You may even think more highly about me,
Like a vapor, I make my true form very hard to see.

It is part of who I am in the populous of the earth,
It makes me who I am, if you care, and for what it’s worth.

Many don’t care though, until I enter their home,
With great fluidity, through their possessions I roam.

But as fate would have it and to my surprise,
I entered your house, and suddenly you did arise.

Out of bed, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, your presence did burst,
As a bright flame, ready to blaze me with your worst.

And at that moment, when fire and water did meet,
I was instantly frozen from my head down to my feet.

Your worst was actually the best thing that ever did happen to me,
The very presence of your fire helped me start to see.

For you it wasn’t about your possessions that I wanted to take,
You were more concerned about my life and what was at stake.

    You corrected my backwards flow,
And illuminated me with a truth I did not know.

You sent the river of my life on a new path,
You helped me understand that my oozing in the wrong direction would only bring wrath.

Like crystal waters under the sun, in me something new began to shine,
Your fire entranced me and began to mold me into something more fine.

It was a part of something that was always inside of me, but had never taken shape,
It was a chipping away at that ice inside me to reveal a mysterious cape.

It was my heart that had always existed in the chilling cold,
But by the intense heat of your words, it was something you were able to mold.

Just to be fair though, I gave you my worst as a gift,
And in you something also began to shift.

I helped you understand the truth about this frosty world,
How, like snowballs, our ill intents are often hurled.

This may even chill you to the bone,
Our motivations, light or dark, are often forced into a zone.

You may think I’m heartless or even dumb,
But you see, the truth is I don’t really want my heart to be numb.

So dear fire, this is my precious gift to you that you did earn,
Within you the truth of my blizzard of agony will always burn.

Even though I am frozen by your fire, you have also caused my darkness to melt,
To be honest, it is the greatest thing I have ever felt.

Now that I have begun to melt, I must drift back into the cold of the night,
But this time as I pour into the darkness I shall carry with me a new light.

I hope that one day, under different circumstances, I can be graced again by your gleam.
I want to know you so closely that when my ice touches your fire, together we become steam.

Until that day, I will be thankful for what you helped me to know,
The truth of your fire will go with my heart, and in it, it will snow.

  • David Versus Goliath: A Battle Of Giants

David, the youngest son of Jesse the Ephrathite,
A shepherd boy who wasn’t afraid of a fight.

He tended his father’s sheep, and in a moment of their despair,
He smote a lion and a bear.

From his brothers he was set apart,
Anointed above them, after God measured his heart.

Armor bearer to Saul, who was tormented by a spirit.
David’s harp gave him rest when he could hear it.

Sent home to tend to his flock, but then he had to go,
Tasked to take cheese, corn and bread to his brothers facing the Philistines camped in Shochoh.

Goliath of Gath, who stood six cubits and a span,
Heavily armored beyond any normal man.

A helmet of brass, and five thousands shekels more was his coat of mail,
His greaves and shoulder target made of brass as well.

The staff of his spear weighted six hundred shekels, and was as a weaver’s beam,
Terrifying as an unexpected nightmare that comes when you dream.

But it wasn’t just the armor and weapons he was able to wield,
The final piece was another with him bearing his shield.

Goliath mocked Saul’s army and challenged any man to a bet,
Winner take all, and servitude would be the losing sides debt.

He continued to mock the men and challenged them to a fight,
The soldiers cowered, but David saw it in a very different light.

He asked of his people what would become of a victor,
Surely the king would free his father’s house, give his daughter, and make him significantly richer.

David was ready to step up for the cause,
He went before Saul, but the boy’s youth gave him pause.

Saul’s argument was in vain, as David had no fear,
For David had heart, and with God on his side, he smote a lion and a bear.

With the fight looming, it was time to prepare,
However, unproved armor he was not able to wear.

Instead he gathered five stones from a brook, wrapped in scrip,
Into his shepherd’s bag, and a sling in his grip.

The time had come, and David approached the Philistine,
Goliath was insulted by the challenge from a boy so young and lean.

David retaliated, and like a lion he roared,
Declaring that the battle belongs to the Lord.

For God does not give victory based on what weapon you carry or armor you wear,
He measures your heart, and this young boy wasn’t even afraid of a bear.

David reached in his bag, and grabbed a stone,
Out of a sling, and into the air it was thrown.

It made it’s way through the air until it sunk into Goliath’s head,
Dropping him to the earth and he was dead.

David ran hastily and stood over his foe,
Taking his sword, and cutting off his head with the final blow.

A young boy with great faith, some stones, and a sling,
He would go on to one day become a king.

But I don’t want this to end with you thinking that a the real giant in this story failed,
It was David’s heart that God measured which prevailed.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

  • Daniel: Lions, Rulers, And Prayers!

Daniel, favored servant of King Darius the Mede,
First among three presidents, and over one hundred twenty princes he did lead.

A man of excellent spirit, and chosen above many to serve the kingdom,
Those who served beneath him were jealous, and devised a way to take more than his freedom.

The presidents and princes developed a sinister plan,
So devious that it was sure to entangle this beloved man.

They went before King Darius with a plot disguised as a decree,
Knowing he served the Lord, who would one day die for us at Calvary.

Their scheme charged that no man could make petition for thirty days,
Not unto man, or God, knowing very well about Daniel’s faithful ways.

For defying this order would be as a sin,
And that individual would be thrown into the lion’s den.

By the law of the Medes and Persians, this was impossible to break.
The presidents and princes knew the law, but didn’t realize they were making a big mistake.

They watched and they waited for Daniel to pray,
He didn’t disappoint them when he did it in front of the window, three times in a day.

And just like that, their trap had been sprung,
Straight to the king they went as their accusations rung.

Now King Darius quickly realized what had transpired,
The plot against Daniel that the evil men desired.

His heart must’ve felt like it had completely broken,
Over the words against Daniel that were spoken.

The command was issued to cast Daniel into the lion’s den,
King Darius spoke to Daniel with confidence that his God would deliver him from the plot of the evil men.

A stone was placed, ensuring there was no way to leave,
But in times like this., God just wants His children to believe.

The king wept and fasted all through the night,
Then straight to the lion’s den at first light.

He called to Daniel to see if God had delivered him,
Daniel assured the king he was fine, still intact with every limb.

You see, God sent an angel to shut the mouth of every lion,
Even if they wanted to eat him, there would have been no use tryin’.

And just like that, King Darius ordered Daniel out of the lion’s den,
He was soon to be replaced by the corrupt and evil men.

Not only that, their families were thrown in too,
The starving lions soon had plenty on which to chew.

Their bones were broken and the lions did devour,
But most importantly, Daniel was saved by God’s amazing power.

After all that had happened, a new degree was made,
The Living God was exalted, and so was his servant Daniel who prayed.

Let this be a reminder that God has a plan,
Nobody can stop it, neither lion nor man.

Daniel 6:26-27 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
